The Kombucha project continues to grow. This ancient tea produces a thick slimy polymer on top that is usually a waste product, but makers here and worldwide are experimenting with its properties and possibilities.
More than sustainable, it is a generative material – it grows – heat, sugar, water, and oxygen creates raw material for textile exploration in just a few weeks.
The first batch just came out and is ready for tanning, with more on the way for our material library.
Come up and check it out, and dream the big dream – a few cells and sugar could grow to clothe the planet – or another one. Inspiring stuff!
